Regeneration Festival: Learning, Creating, Acting | Regeneration Festival: Aprender, Criar, Agir
This year’s edition of the Regeneration Festival at Aprendizes was a powerful reminder of what education can achieve when curiosity, creativity, and responsibility come together. Over three days, students of all ages explored sustainability, innovation, and social impact through hands-on workshops, student-led projects, and community initiatives, bringing the Sustainable Development Goals to life in every corner of the school.
From the youngest learners to secondary students, the festival provided opportunities to engage with the world meaningfully. Preschoolers explored the transformation of waste through theatre and interactive workshops, discovering how discarded materials and microplastics affect our environment and how creativity can reimagine them. They experimented with zero-waste cooking, turning ingredients into jam and sauces, learning that even small actions can have meaningful impact.
Our youngest grade students also embraced the principles of environmental responsibility and creativity. First graders created mini decorative panels with Vintage for a Cause, turning textile remnants into artistic expressions while reflecting on physical and mental well-being. Second graders embarked on the H2O Expedition with BoG – Environmental Consulting, exploring both responsible water use and global inequalities in access to safe drinking water. Third graders discovered coral ecosystems with Carla Lourenço / Straw Patrol, understanding how these “rainforests of the sea” sustain marine life and what actions they can take to protect them. Fourth graders learned about biodiversity and conservation with Ayala Botto and SEI Portugal, studying native species, invasive threats, and the critical impact of human activity on ocean ecosystems.
Middle and secondary students took the lead in shaping change through both hands-on and conceptual projects. In the Global Perspectives Investment Fair, students presented their Design for Change projects to peers, parents, teachers, and “secret investors,” demonstrating creativity, critical thinking, and the potential for tangible community impact. Workshops such as From Prep to Plate to Soil (Joana Xardoné), Closing the Loop: Zero Waste Tour (Viriato (student) and André Maciel), The Hidden Life of Trees (André Maciel), and Sustainability Consulting in Action (Oikos Lisbon) allowed students to explore circular systems, ecological networks, and the application of ESG principles in real-world contexts. They also participated in the DIY Clean Beauty Lab, We Move Together – PE Dance, sustainable lunch in the lent for the Houses for Change initiative and a student-led pizza fundraiser at the BioMarket: Regeneration Edition, combining sustainability, creativity, and social responsibility in meaningful, hands-on ways.
Beyond student-led activities, the festival reinforced Aprendizes’ commitment to community care and solidarity. Donation initiatives for schools affected by Storm Kristin, “4 houses, 4 causes” and ongoing collections of school supplies, bottle caps, toothbrushes, and small electrical appliances encouraged the entire school community to participate in acts of giving that extend the festival’s impact beyond the campus.
The Regeneration Festival is more than a series of workshops or events—it is a manifestation of a mindset. It shows that education is most powerful when it moves beyond knowledge, inspiring students to think critically, act creatively, and lead responsibly. Over these three days, Aprendizes students have demonstrated that regeneration is not simply an environmental concept: it is a way of learning, living, and shaping the world.
As the festival concludes, the message is clear: when students are given the tools, the space, and the trust to explore and act, they are not just learning about the world—they are shaping its future.
A edição deste ano do Regeneration Festival nos Aprendizes foi um lembrete poderoso do que a educação pode alcançar quando a curiosidade, a criatividade e a responsabilidade se juntam. Durante três dias, alunos de todas as idades exploraram sustentabilidade, inovação e impacto social através de workshops práticos, projetos liderados pelos estudantes e iniciativas comunitárias, tornando os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável uma realidade no dia a dia da escola.
Do pré-escolar ao secundário, o festival proporcionou experiências que aproximaram os alunos do mundo de forma concreta. Os mais pequenos descobriram como resíduos e microplásticos afetam o ambiente, através de teatro e workshops interativos, e aprenderam a cozinhar sem desperdício, transformando ingredientes em compotas e molhos, percebendo que até pequenas ações fazem a diferença.
Os alunos do 1.º ano criaram mini painéis decorativos com a Vintage for a Cause, transformando restos de tecidos em expressões artísticas enquanto refletiam sobre bem-estar físico e mental. No 2.º ano, a H2O Expedition com a BoG – Environmental Consulting explorou o uso responsável da água e as desigualdades no acesso a água potável. Os alunos do 3.º ano descobriram os corais, com a Carla Lourenço, aprendendo como estas ”florestas tropicais do oceano” sustentam os ecossistemas e o que podem fazer para os proteger. Os alunos do 4.º ano aprenderam sobre biodiversidade e conservação com a Ayala Botto e a SEI Portugal, estudando espécies nativas, ameaças invasoras e o impacto da atividade humana nos oceanos.
No middle e secundário, os alunos assumiram a liderança em projetos práticos e conceptuais. Na Global Perspectives Investment Fair, apresentaram os seus projetos Design for Change a colegas, professores, pais e “investidores secretos”, mostrando criatividade, pensamento crítico e impacto real na comunidade. Workshops como From Prep to Plate to Soil (Joana Xardoné), Closing the Loop: Zero Waste Tour (Viriato (aluno) e André Maciel), The Hidden Life of Trees (André Maciel) e Sustainability Consulting in Action (Oikos Lisbon) permitiram-lhes explorar sistemas circulares, redes ecológicas e princípios ESG na prática. Participaram ainda no DIY Clean Beauty Lab, no We Move Together – PE Dance, no almoço sustentável do Houses for Change e na angariação de fundos liderada pelos alunos na BioMarket: Regeneration Edition, combinando sustentabilidade, criatividade e responsabilidade social de forma prática e significativa.
Para além das atividades lideradas pelos alunos, o festival reforçou o compromisso da Aprendizes com solidariedade e comunidade. As iniciativas de doação para escolas afetadas pela Tempestade Kristin, a ação “4 casas, 4 causas” e a recolha contínua de material escolar, tampas de garrafa, escovas de dentes e pequenos eletrodomésticos envolveram toda a comunidade em atos de generosidade que estendem o impacto do festival para além do campus.
O Regeneration Festival é mais do que workshops ou eventos — é uma mentalidade. Mostra que a educação é mais poderosa quando inspira os alunos a pensar, criar e agir com responsabilidade. Ao longo destes três dias, os estudantes da Aprendizes demonstraram que a regeneração não é apenas um conceito ambiental: é uma forma de aprender, viver e influenciar o mundo.
No final, a mensagem é clara: quando os alunos têm espaço, ferramentas e confiança para explorar e agir, não estão apenas a aprender sobre o mundo — estão a moldar o seu futuro.
