Humanities Week: Connecting Past, Present, and Future | Semana das Humanidades: Ligando Passado, Presente e Futuro

This week, Aprendizes celebrated Humanities Week, an inspiring initiative that brought together all humanities subjects—including history, sociology, psychology, and Global Perspectives—into a vibrant, interdisciplinary experience. The week encouraged students to explore societies, cultures, and global challenges, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and reflection while developing the skills needed to understand the complex world around them.

Throughout the week, students took part in a variety of engaging activities. In the prehistoric Portugal workshop, they were challenged to identify which rocks were ordinary and which held prehistoric significance, combining observation, analysis, and historical knowledge in a hands-on way. The living museum offered a fun and interactive experience where students could learn about significant figures from world history and engage directly with their peers to ask questions about their research.

A highlight of the week was a visit to Complexo Brasil at the Gulbenkian, where secondary sociology students, together with grade 9 art and music students, collaborated to create an alternative guidebook, blending observation, creativity, and research in an innovative project. Back at school, students explored the origins of Carnival, a timely investigation connected to the upcoming Carnival holidays, and produced infographics to present psychological and sociological theories in clear, visually engaging ways. Other activities included designing a monument inspired by Aristides de Sousa Mendes, reflecting on historical significance and creative expression. Workshops on Japanese tea ceremonies and early 20th-century Japan will take place after the school break, offering students insight into another culture and its traditions.

Humanities Week at Aprendizes was more than a series of lessons—it was a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and reflection. It gave students the chance to connect with the past, engage with the present, and imagine a future shaped by knowledge, empathy, and creativity.

Esta semana, os Aprendizes celebrou a Semana das Humanidades, uma iniciativa inspiradora que reuniu todas as disciplinas das humanidades—incluindo história, sociologia, psicologia e Global Perspectives—numa experiência interdisciplinar vibrante. A semana incentivou os alunos a explorar sociedades, culturas e desafios globais, promovendo o pensamento crítico, a criatividade e a reflexão, ao mesmo tempo que desenvolvia competências essenciais para compreender o mundo complexo à sua volta.

Ao longo da semana, os alunos participaram em diversas atividades envolventes. No workshop sobre a pré-história de Portugal, tiveram a tarefa de identificar quais rochas eram comuns e quais tinham significado pré-histórico, combinando observação, análise e conhecimento histórico de forma prática. O museu vivo proporcionou um momento divertido e interativo, permitindo aos alunos aprender sobre figuras importantes da história mundial e interagir diretamente com os colegas para colocar questões sobre as suas pesquisas.

Um ponto alto da semana foi a visita ao Complexo Brasil na Gulbenkian, onde os alunos do ensino secundário de sociologia, juntamente com os alunos do 9.º ano de arte e música, colaboraram na criação de um guia alternativo, combinando observação, criatividade e investigação num projeto inovador. De volta à escola, os alunos exploraram as origens do Carnaval, uma investigação em sintonia com a proximidade dos festejos de Carnaval, e produziram infográficos para apresentar teorias psicológicas e sociológicas de forma clara e visualmente apelativa. Outras atividades incluíram o design de um monumento inspirado em Aristides de Sousa Mendes, refletindo sobre a importância histórica e a expressão criativa. Workshops sobre as cerimónias do chá no Japão e o Japão do início do século XX terão lugar após as férias, oferecendo aos alunos uma perspetiva sobre outra cultura e as suas tradições.

A Semana das Humanidades na Aprendizes foi mais do que uma série de aulas; foi uma celebração da curiosidade, criatividade e reflexão, proporcionando aos alunos a oportunidade de se ligarem ao passado, envolverem-se no presente e imaginarem um futuro moldado pelo conhecimento, empatia e criatividade.
