Grade 9 Explores Prehistoric Évora | 9.º Ano Explora a Évora Pré-Histórica

Grade 9 students travelled to Évora for their “Feel” trip, exploring the city’s unique blend of history, archaeology, and cultural heritage. Their jouney included the UNESCO-classified historic center, where students walked through centuries of architecture before arriving at the iconic Roman Temple of Diana. They continued to the Bone Chapel inside the Renaissance Church of St. Francis, reflecting on themes of memory, impermanence, and the meaning of preserving the past.

In the afternoon, the group visited the Almendres Cromlech—one of Europe’s oldest megalithic complexes, older than Stonehenge. There, students observed the mysterious alignment of stones with the sun and stars, gaining insight into the astronomical knowledge of ancient communities.

The trip offered meaningful connections between classroom learning and real historical environments, inspiring ideas and research for the exhibitions students will develop this term. It was a day of discovery that deepened their understanding of Portugal’s rich heritage.

Os alunos do 9.º ano viajaram até Évora para a sua “Feel” trip, explorando a combinação única de história, arqueologia e património cultural da cidade. A visita levou-os pelo centro histórico classificado pela UNESCO, onde percorreram ruas marcadas por séculos de arquitetura até ao emblemático Templo Romano de Diana. Seguidamente, visitaram a Capela dos Ossos, integrada na Igreja de São Francisco, refletindo sobre temas como memória, impermanência e a importância de preservar o passado.

Durante a tarde, o grupo seguiu para o Cromeleque dos Almendres—um dos mais antigos complexos megalíticos da Europa, mais antigo do que Stonehenge. Ali, observaram o intrigante alinhamento das pedras com o sol e as estrelas, explorando o conhecimento astronómico das antigas comunidades.

A experiência permitiu ligar a aprendizagem em sala de aula a cenários históricos reais, inspirando ideias para as exposições que irão desenvolver este período. Foi um dia de descoberta que aprofundou o conhecimento do património português.
