Global Perspectives: Arguing to Persuade | Perspetivas Globais: Argumentar e Convencer

This week in 7th grade Global Perspectives, students were tasked with creating a short persuasive speech and presenting it in front of their classmates in the amphitheatre. The chosen topics often involved light-hearted controversies, such as “Dogs are better than cats” or “Reading is the best hobby.” While preparing their speeches, students had to research credible sources to support their opinions with evidence. During the presentations, they also learned techniques for addressing an audience, how to enter and exit the stage with confidence, as well as the concept of “hear-hear” — a phrase the audience can use to show agreement with what has just been said.

Esta semana, na disciplina de Perspetivas Globais do 7.º ano, os alunos tiveram como tarefa elaborar um breve discurso persuasivo e apresentá-lo diante dos colegas no anfiteatro. Os temas escolhidos envolviam alguma polémica divertida, como “Os cães são melhores do que os gatos” ou “Ler é o melhor passatempo.” Ao prepararem os seus discursos, os alunos tiveram de procurar fontes credíveis que fundamentassem a sua opinião. Durante as apresentações, aprenderam também técnicas de como se dirigir ao público, de como entrar e sair do palco com confiança, bem como o conceito de “hear-hear” — uma expressão que o público pode utilizar para mostrar concordância com o que acabou de ser dito.
